Thing to do in Montreal
Here is a small list of links to attractions in Montreal. The last link is a great starting place to find things in and around the Island of Montreal.
The Old Port - The Old Port (Vieux Port) is the biggest tourist attraction in Montreal; for a good reason! The cobblestone streets and great architechture alone are worth the walk down to the old port. There are also trendy shops, galleries, restaurants, street ventors and many other attractions in the old port. These attractions include the basilica Notre-Dame (a replica of the one in France), the waterfront, and Hotel de Ville (city hall) to name a few.
Mont-Royal - This is a mountain (well in Eastern Canadian terms) in the middle of the city. There are great walking/running trails, parks and lookouts on the mountain. Also, on Sundays this is where you can catch a Montreal tradition, the tam-tams (a jam session for any drummer who wants to join in).
Musee des Beaux-Arts - This is a great place to start if you'd like to take-in some museums. There are also many, many more museums; most of which are located downtown.
Marche Jean-Talon - This is one of my favorite places in Montreal. It is an open air market located north of downtown in Little Italy. Beyond the great fresh produce there are also a ton of specialty shops that surround the market (like Montreal, it is very multi-cultural).
Place des Arts - An arts centre located downtown that has a wide range of plays, muscials, symphonies, operas and more.
Parc Jean-Drapeau - Parc Jean-Drapeau is a parc on an Island off the Southern tip of Montreal (but connected via metro). This is where many of the '76 Olymic sporting events took place and where the Grand Prix takes place every year. On Ile-Ste-Helene there is also an amusemant park and the Biodome. If you like to gamble you can check-out the casino which is also located on Ile-Ste-Helene.
Parc Lafontaine - This is a park located just east of downtown in a part of Montreal called the Plateau (prodominantly french). It is a very large park that is great for having a piq-niq or doing some sports (in Montreal people watching could be considered a sport).

Restaurants
One of my most favorite things about Montreal is the variety of outstanding restaurants. Chris and I have done some leg-work for you and tested some restaurants (it was really, really hard work...wink).
Nile Bleu - Ethiopian
One of my absolute favorites! Ethiopian is used served on one large platter that is shared by all and is eaten without utensils but rather with spongy bread called injera.
3706, rue Saint-Denis 514-285-4628
Schwartz's - Smoked meat
World famous MTL smoked meat; a must for meat lovers
3895 Boulevard Saint-Laurent, H2W 1X9
Khyber Pass - Afghane
Cuisine is similar to persian and a little bit like Indian.
506, avenue Duluth Est QC Montréal; 514-844-7131
La Carretta - Salvadorian
It's a bit out of the way but it is so yummy! My favorite are the pupusas...be careful they are way more filling than you'd think.
4350, rue Saint-Zotique Est, Montréal, QC H2S 1L7; 514-273-888
Shambala - Tibetan
This is where Chris and I went on our first date. The momos are amazing!
3439, rue Saint-Denis QC Montréal; (514) 842-2242
For Chinese food...I haven't gone to a bad Chinese restaurant in China town. China town is just north of the old port and south-east of downtown...just look for the arches.
Restaurant L'Académie - French & Italian
This restaurant is good and has good pricing as well. The down-side is that it doesn't take reservations and the line can be a bit long. An up-side (other than the food) is that it is a BYO (bring your own wine) and there is a SAQ (Quebec liquor store) right beside it.
4051, rue Saint-Denis
Greek restaurants...There is a street called Prince-Arthur which is just north of Sherbrooke and east off of St.Laurent that has many Greek restaurants which are all ok. They are mostly BYO.
But two of my favorite greek restaurants are:Ouzerie; 4690, rue Saint-Denis (514) 845-1336 andLe Jardin de Panos; 521, avenue Duluth Est (514)521-4206. Jardin de Panos is a BYO.
Duluth St.
This is a street in a prodominantly french area of Montreal (north-east of downtown)that is lined with restos. It isn't a touristy area and therefore you get to see a different slice of Montreal. The restaurants on Duluth are of all different ethnicities and price ranges (but all more affordable than you'll find downtown or in the old port). Most of the restaurants on this street are BYO and all are of great quality. We highly recommend venturing to this area of town!
Thai Grill
Best pad thai I've ever had!
5101 St Laurent Montreal, QC; (514) 270-5566
Haute Cuisine...
Not much to say about these except that they are all very good and have an outstanding atmosphere (that's why you pay the big bucks).
Garcon
Sherbrook Ouest @ Peel
Restaurant Bice
1504, rue Sherbrooke Ouest; (514) 937-6009
Buona Notte
3518 St Laurent; (514) 848-0644
